Lindsay Lohan tells Vanity Fair: 'I was irresponsible'

Conceding that "I was irresponsible," Lindsay Lohan tells Vanity Fair in an upcoming interview that "I'm not making excuses" for the substance abuse, road rage and self-destructive behavior that ultimately landed her in jail and rehab.

Of her missing several court-ordered alcohol-education classes, which sent her to jail July 20 for probation violation, "I have to support myself. I have to pay for my apartment. I have to pay for food," the actress, 24, says in the October cover story. "People root for me and say they want me to work, but then everyone's against me."

Her hard nightclubbing after moving to Los Angeles from Long Island came about, she says, because "I didn't have any structure. . . . I was 18, 19, with a ton of money and no one really here to tell me that I couldn't do certain things. . . . And I see where that's gotten me now, and I don't like it."

In the interview, a week before she entered jail, the "Mean Girls" star calls her partying past "my college years . . . but they were in the public eye. . . . I was doing certain things that people do 10 times more of when they're in college."

She says, "I want my career back. I know that I'm a damn good actress, and it's been my passion since I was a child. . . . And if that takes not going out to a club at night, then so be it."
