ADVOCACY

A movement is afoot by some in the Island's business community to draft Kevin Law, chief executive of the Long Island Power Authority, as the next president of the Long Island Association, replacing Matt Crosson.

"There is a move to recruit Kevin Law," said one business executive familiar with the situation. Law's qualifications? "Obviously, he's tied to Albany very well and he gets along with both sides of the aisle," said the executive, who spoke on condition of anonymity because an LIA search committee is still working to find a replacement for Crosson, who is stepping down after 16 years.

"I called Kevin already," the executive said. "He expressed a great deal of interest."

Law's office did not return a call seeking comment.

Katherine Heaviside, president of Epoch 5 Marketing in Huntington and spokeswoman for the search committee, said the committee expects a job description to be finalized within the next week. "Our process for selection will be fair and open, with each candidate evaluated as to how well they match the requirements for the position," the statement said.

Mitch Pally, a well-known and highly respected figure in Long Island's business community, had said he would be receptive to talking to the search committee about replacing Crosson, who steps down in September. Pally was with the LIA for 21 years, serving as a vice president before leaving in 2006 to practice law.
