The Long Island Rail Road has scheduled 16 extra trains for travel to and from the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Manhattan on Thursday.

The commuter rail service said the additional trains — six westbound morning trains and 10 eastbound afternoon trains — will supplement its regular weekday schedule.

The six additional westbound trains have been added to the Ronkonkoma, Babylon and Port Jefferson branches, between 9 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.

The 10 extra eastbound trains all originate from Penn Station and run from 1:49 p.m. to 3:48 p.m.

In order to “maintain orderly travel for customers, alcoholic beverages will not be permitted on trains, platforms or at stations from 12:01 a.m. Thursday through 5 a.m. Friday,” the LIRR said.

Alcoholic beverages found by MTA police on trains, stations and platforms will be confiscated.

Also, bar carts at Grand Central and Penn Station will not operate, the LIRR said.

The Metro-North Railroad also will operate extra trains, and New York City subways and buses will operate on a normal weekday schedule, with some parade-related service changes.

Up-to-date information on MTA service is at mta.info or by calling the LIRR’s Travel Information Center. Dial 511 and say “Long Island Rail Road” when prompted.
