LIRR: Broken rail in tunnel repaired
A broken rail in the East River Tunnel was repaired Thursday afternoon and should not be an issue for evening commuters on the Long Island Rail Road, a spokesman said.
The broken rail canceled at least one westbound morning train and caused some westbound delays of up to 15 minutes, the commuter service said.
Repairs were completed at 12:44 p.m. and the afternoon commute should not be affected, said Cliff Cole, a spokesman for Amtrak, which maintains tracks in the tunnel.
Several trains due into Penn Station slightly before 9 a.m. also were diverted to Atlantic Terminal because of the broken rail, the LIRR said.
