LIRR: Montauk branch service on or close after suspension lifted
The Montauk branch was operating on or close to schedule at the end of the Monday morning rush hour after track damage earlier near Mastic-Shirley resulted in a suspension of service and residual delays averaging 90 minutes.
The Long Island Rail Road said the branch was on or close to schedule in an email alert shortly before 10:30 a.m. Service was restored to the branch at about 8:30 a.m.
The LIRR had suspended service in both directions east of the Patchogue station after suspending it at about 7 a.m. because of a track condition.
Just before it suspended service, the LIRR said the track condition was debris on the track west of Mastic-Shirley station. Later, spokesman Aaron Donovan said the condition was a “misaligned piece of track.”
Overall, the morning rush hour had about 10 delays and at least one canceled train because of the track condition on the Montauk line and a broken rail near the Copiague station, Donovan said.
