LIRR service delays on Port Jefferson branch due to weather

Long Island Rail Road riders were warned of delays averaging 25 to 30 minutes in both directions on the Port Jefferson branch Tuesday evening between Hicksville and Huntington stations because of ongoing weather-related signal trouble.

It was the latest in a series of weather-related problems affecting the LIRR Tuesday evening after high winds and heavy rains blew through the region in the afternoon, toppling trees and downing power lines.

Several other trains were delayed by 10 to 12 minutes, according to the railroad’s Twitter feed.

Power problems also affected crossing gates and the third rail on some branches, officials said.
