LIRR: Port Washington branch on or close

Service on the Port Washington branch was on or close to schedule during the morning commute Monday after an earlier suspension because of a person being struck and killed by a train, the Long Island Rail Road said.

Service on the branch was suspended in both directions between Penn Station and Flushing/Main Street at about 4:45 a.m. after a person was hit and killed west of the Woodside station, the LIRR said.

A spokesman said the person was hit at about 1:30 a.m. and was not authorized to be on the tracks.

Initially, the LIRR said commuters should anticipate residual delays; shortly before 6 a.m. the LIRR said it was on or close to schedule.

The spokesman said the incident affected only trains on the Port Washington branch.
