Port Washington branch Long Island Rail Road customers will see major service changes over the next two weekends as the LIRR conducts track work along the line, railroad officials said.
Service on the Port Washington line will be reduced to hourly, from half hourly, from 12:30 p.m. Saturday until 3 p.m. Sunday. After that, service will be suspended altogether between Bayside and Port Washington until midnight. Buses will substitute for trains between the two stations during the suspension.
The service changes are necessary as the LIRR conducts a switch-renewal project between Bayside and Great Neck, and also inspects tracks along the line for defects.
On Saturday, Oct. 11, Port Washington branch service will again be reduced to hourly. On Sunday, Oct. 12, from 3 p.m. until midnight, train service will again be replaced by bus service, as switch work is performed near Woodside.
