LIRR trains to aid in evacuations
The LIRR is running special shuttle trains from Far Rockaway to Valley Stream to help evacuate residents living in low-lying "Zone A" areas and the Far Rockaways, the agency said Friday.
The first train will depart Far Rockaway at 7:50 p.m. and will make all local stops to Valley Stream. Customers can transfer at Valley Stream for service farther west.
The MTA has also suspended tolls at the Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge and the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge, and waived fares on city buses and on subways at stations in the mandatory evacuation area.
