If it’s the Nassau Class B girls lacrosse championship, then it must be time for Garden City and Wantagh. These teams have played in every Class B title game since it came into existence, with Garden City winning each one.

Garden City (17-0) won the first meeting between these two teams this season, 15-11 on May 11, in the regular season finale, thanks in part to three goals and five assists from Caroline Tarzian. Tarzian was the Trojan’s leading scorer this year with 68 goals and 13 assists. Mikaela Rix (42 goals, 16 assists), Shannon Mangini (34 goals, nine assists) and Alex Bruno (34 goals, 18 assists) also had big offensive years for the Trojans, who are in the running for the national title. GC rolled past Jericho 18-2 in the quarters and Plainedge 17-5 in the semis. Stopping Wantagh will be tougher. The Warriors have not scored less than 10 goals in a game this season.

Wantagh (12-4) is one of the few teams in the country with the firepower to keep up with Garden City. Paual Schmidt (51 goals, 44 assists) and Jackie Sileo (40 goals, 56 assists) are one of the best scoring duos around and Kaleigh Craig (42 goals, 10 assists) and Colleen Lovett (45 goals. 13 assists) also provide plenty of offense. Wantagh routed MacArthur 20-7 in the quarters and South Side 17-7 in the semis. If they hold a third team to 7 goals, they'll hit the jackpot, but it's unlikely. GC's season low in goals is 15, scored in that win against Wantagh.

The start is a little delayed by a couple of hours due to earlier thunderstorms. See you soon.
