Lively discussion, and levity, on Reddit

As train service halted Saturday, commuters engaged in a lively discussion on the Reddit dedicated to discussions of the LIRR, r/LIRR.
The MTA’s plans for shuttle buses drew several comments from riders who travel at off-peak times. Buses will run from selected LIRR stations on Long Island to Manhattan, but only during peak hours, with very limited reverse-commute routes.
“NYC Commuters Apparently Supposed to Teleport to Long Island,” one rider wrote. “What about the people who live in the city and have to commute to jobs, schools, hospitals, and clinicals in Long Island… What do they have planned for us?”
One contributor, Cool-Ease-981, identified themselves as an LIRR worker on strike, and offered to answer questions. “Yes, I’m aware I will get burned alive,” the worker wrote. “Hopefully I can give you a different view from the inside out.”
The worker responded to questions about pay scales, overtime and how long they thought the strike would last (not past Monday, was the worker’s prediction.)
Some commenters came to the defense of the striking workers. “Imagine being told you’re overpaid when you’re struggling, JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE, to survive and pay your bills,” one remarked.
“Just wanna say keep it up. Strength and Solidarity,” another wrote.
Some responded to the shutdown with levity.
On Saturday evening, one wrote, “Why are no trains running? I’m at the LIRR station. Is this because people were putting their feet on the seats?”
