VOTING

6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Bayville Intermediate School, Ann McArthur Primary School and Brookville Reformed Church.

THE BUDGET

The district is proposing a 2010-11 budget of $71,752,390, a 2.84 percent increase over the current budget of $69,768,376. The proposed tax levy of $66,674,890 is a 3.56 percent increase over the current levy of $64,385,176.

District officials declined to estimate the effect of the tax increase on the average house, citing complications in assessments that make this difficult.

The proposed budget calls for reductions in 9.9 teachers and 21 other staff members.

In addition, there are three other propositions. One would authorize the district to add $83,200 to the budget for a driver's education program. A second would appropriate $830,000 from the capital reserve fund for repairs at Bayville Intermediate School and floor replacements at the elementary schools. A third, to be voted on only by voters within the Locust Valley Library service area - the same area as the former Union Free School District No. 4 in the Town of Oyster Bay - would appropriate $1,414,237 for the Locust Valley Library.
