Cpl. Joshua Himan, of Dale City, Va., met several students and faculty from Long Beach Catholic Regional School. The Long Beach Waterfront Warriors volunteer group will welcome soldiers and military families to the city tomorrow through next Thursday.

Volunteers will provide meals, activities and lodging during the event, which includes an 8 a.m. 5-kilometer “Run For The Warriors” on the city’s boardwalk on Sunday, organizers said.

A welcome parade is also scheduled to begin Sunday at 3 p.m. at Ohio Avenue and Beach Street, organizers said.

The parade will stretch to New York Avenue for a barbecue at Long Beach Catholic Regional School, organizers said.

“We are committed to the young men and women who are sacrificing so much to protect our freedom,” event co-chairman Gerry Snell said in a statement. “We want them to know we appreciate all they do for us, and that we will never forget them.”
