Long Beach has tapped a Minnesota firm to install new flooring at Long Beach Ice Arena, which was damaged by superstorm Sandy.

Rink Systems Inc. of Albert Lea, Minn. will place 15,000 square feet of “heavy duty rubber flooring” at the ice arena, according to a resolution approved by the city council Tuesday.

The city will pay Rink Systems $63,500 for the job, city records state.

The rubber flooring will be placed on the floor of the ice arena that surrounds the ice rink, city officials said. This type of flooring will allow ice skaters and hockey players to walk in the arena while wearing skates, officials said.

The ice arena, the former practice facility of the New York Rangers, has been closed since Sandy.

The city received four bids for the job, records state.
