BAY SHORE/Man charged with murder in stabbing of wife
A Bay Shore man accused of stabbing his estranged wife to death was arraigned on grand jury charges of second-degree murder at county court in Riverhead Friday.
Wesley Paul, 38, had a bandage wrapped around his head when he appeared in court - the result of injuries from the Aug. 7 attack, police said.
Paul "ambushed his wife while she was showering and stabbed her multiple times," Assistant District Attorney Robert Biancavilla said.
Police said Paul was upset with his estranged wife Monica Paul over custodial issues of their 6-year-old son.
Suffolk County Supreme Court Justice William Condon ordered Paul held without bail. He is due back in court Sept. 30.
Two relatives who came in support of Paul declined to comment. Paul's attorney Glenn Obedin of Central Islip said it was too early in the case to comment.

JONES BEACH/Leaping concertgoer now out of intensive care
The man who police say jumped from a second-tier balcony during an intermission at the Phish concert in the Jones Beach amphitheater this week is now in satisfactory condition.
The Maine man, who officials are not identifying, had been in critical condition at Nassau University Medical Center after the 25-foot leap Wednesday. A NUMC spokeswoman said Friday that the man is out of the intensive care unit.
An investigation later revealed that the man jumped. Police have not said what led the man to do so.
No charges have been filed against the jumper, said State Park Police Sgt. Anthony Astacio, but the investigation will continue.

BROOKHAVEN/Town awards $225G sewage analysis contract
The Brookhaven Town Board has awarded a $225,000 contract to analyze the existing sewage capacity of all sewage treatment plants within the town.
The town gave the contract to Cashin Associates of Hauppauge with Dvirka and Bartiluci Consulting Engineers and Michael P. Chiarelli, another engineer.
The study "will help to determine where sewers exist, where sewers are needed, who owns them, and if there is any opportunity to tap into excess capacity," town officials said in a statement.
"By comparing current data with existing planning studies, the Town can determine what additional capacity needs to be created to support redevelopment, expansion, and growth," the statement read.
The analysis is expected to be completed early in 2011, officials said.
