NORTH HEMPSTEAD/Harbor Links Golf Course fees raised
Fees will increase at the town-owned Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington, the Town of North Hempstead board voted this week.
Golf cart fees are raised from $20 to $22.
The nine-hole course will go up $2: Town residents will pay $17 during the week and $20 on weekends. Nonresidents will pay $20 during the week and $26 on weekends.
The weekend discounted rate for the 18-hole course that started at 10 a.m. will now start at noon. The fee for seniors and juniors on that course will increase $2.
General manager Donald Zauner asked the town board Tuesday night to increase the senior and junior fee by $3. Supervisor Jon Kaiman suggested raising it by $2 instead, which the board approved. This is the first rate increase since 1998, town officials said.
The new rates go into effect next month.

YAPHANK/Fire district to get $112,670 grant
Yaphank Fire District will get a $112,670 federal grant as part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
"This essential grant ensures that the Yaphank Fire Department will continue to have the basic resources required to do their jobs, improve safety and save lives," said Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), who secured the grant.
The grant program is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and is meant to improve local firefighting in areas such as terrorist attack training, emergency medical services as well as other related skills needed for rescue.
