Pedestrian killed in hit-run

A pedestrian was killed yesterday in Setauket by a hit-and-run driver who is being sought by police, authorities said.

The body of Joseph Santiago, 47, of Setauket, was discovered by an electrical utility driver about 1:20 a.m. on Ridgeway Avenue, police said.They are asking anyone with information about the accident to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at 631-852-6555 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.

Man faces lewdness charge

A Blue Point man who exposed himself to motorists and pedestrians faces a charge of public lewdness, Suffolk County police said yesterday.

Rian Loper, 20, of Bayview Avenue, was arrested Thursday on three counts of public lewdness, police said. He was scheduled to be arraigned yesterday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Arson suspected in car fire

A suspected arson fire caused extensive damage to a 2003 Infiniti parked in the driveway of an unoccupied home in North Amityville early Friday, Suffolk County police said.

Police said the fire caused minor damage to the house on Steele Place. The fire was reported shortly after midnight.

Boat propeller cuts boy, 10

A 10-year-old boy swimming in the waters off the Cedarhurst Yacht Club in Lawrence sustained cuts to a leg after he came in contact with a boat's propeller yesterday, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

The boy was rushed to a Far Rockaway hospital and was listed in serious condition, police said. Nassau police are continuing to investigate.
