LIRR adds extra train service for marathon
The Long Island Rail Road is providing special service for people participating in or attending the inaugural Suffolk County Marathon and Half-Marathon on Sunday.
The "Marathon Train" will depart Penn Station at 5:29 a.m. Sunday and arrive at 6:45 at Babylon, where customers can connect to shuttle buses bound for Heckscher State Park in East Islip, where the race will begin.
The train will stop at Woodside, Jamaica and all local stops to Babylon.
For those wanting to arrive earlier, the LIRR also operates a 4:54 a.m. train out of Penn Station, arriving at 6:09 at Babylon, where runners can connect to shuttle buses.
After the race, two buses will depart Heckscher State Park at 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. The buses are timed to connect, respectively, with the 1:28 and 4:28 p.m. westbound trains to Penn Station.
Proceeds from the first-of-its-kind race will benefit Suffolk County veterans.
BABYLON
Crafts, entertainment at Argyle Lake Park
The village's Country Fair will bring children's rides and hundreds of vendors selling handcrafted goods to Argyle Lake Park on Sunday.
The fair also offers food and entertainment around the gazebo, located South of Montauk Highway.
Thousands of people have attended in past years.
The Babylon Beautification Society, which organizes the fair, uses proceeds to pay for holiday lights and decorations, trees and other plantings across the village, including 800 hanging flower baskets.
Fair hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a Sept. 20 rain date. Weather updates on Sunday will be posted on the village website, villageofbabylonny.gov. Fair Grounds are located at Argyle Lake Park and at 250 W. Main St.
