Worker injured in elevator

fall at construction site

A worker fell down an elevator shaft at a Port Jefferson Village condo construction site Wednesday, Suffolk police said.

The victim was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital after falling shortly after 2 p.m. at the Liberty Avenue worksite, police said. The extent of his injuries wasn't immediately known. Sixth Precinct detectives remained at the scene late in the afternoon, police said.

The Liberty Meadows development for residents 55 and older is being built by developer James Tsunis and The Northwind Group. Tsunis and Northwind officials could not be reached Wednesday afternoon.

Woman struck in leg

by stray bullet, police say

A stray bullet from gunshots fired during an altercation in an East Farmingdale parking lot late Tuesday wounded a woman, Suffolk County police said.

First Squad detectives are investigating the shooting in which a woman, 18, was struck in the thigh at about 11:55 p.m. in the rear parking lot of Theater 294 at 294 Rte. 109.

Police said the woman was a bystander in the lot and that the altercation broke out during a party that about 150 people attended. Several gunshots were fired during the fight, police said, and the woman was hit in the right thigh by a bullet.

She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where she was listed in good condition, police said.
