MASSAPEQUA PARK

Feds: Carrier trashed mail

A postal carrier from Massapequa Park trashed more than 1,000 pieces of mail instead of delivering them, federal prosecutors said.

Patrick Paskett, 24, was arraigned Thursday in federal court in Brooklyn and released on his own recognizance, a court spokesman said yesterday.

He is charged with felony destruction of mail and faces 5 years in prison if convicted.

Between Dec. 1 and March 6, Paskett, a regular carrier assigned to the Seaford Post Office since last June, deposited pieces of mail into waste containers in Seaford and Massapequa Park, the court complaint claims.

Paskett told a special agent for the Postal Inspection Service he put mail into trash containers about 15 times since December; he also said he knew it was wrong to throw away the mail, the complaint said.

A phone call to Paskett's home was not returned.
