ELMONT
Dunkin' store robbery foiled
An attempted armed robbery of a Dunkin' Donuts in Elmont was thwarted Monday night when two female employees fled to the store basement and the robber fled empty-handed, Nassau County police said.
One of the two women suffered a knee injury when she fell while fleeing, police said. She was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Police said the attempted robbery occurred at the store on Linden Boulevard at about 10:20 p.m.
Police also said the suspected robber, described as being about 5-foot-10 with a medium build and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, green sweatpants and a red bandanna over his face, entered the store and displayed a handgun.
He demanded cash. But, instead of handing over any money, police said, the two women ran to the basement -- and waited for police.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the robbery attempt to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
WEST ISLIP
Video leads cops to suspect
Surveillance video and other evidence led police to arrest a Lindenhurst man early yesterday in separate crimes committed in October and November.
Robert Marlow, 23, of 189 33rd St., surrendered to Nassau County police at the Second Precinct in Woodbury at 2 a.m. He faces charges of second-degree burglary and fourth-degree grand larceny.
Police said Marlow was caught on video surveillance using a debit card belonging to a 20-year-old woman.
It was not clear when or where that surveillance video was shot. But police said the woman was doing her personal banking on Oct. 26 when she noticed an "unauthorized transaction" allegedly made by Marlow at a food store in West Islip. It was not clear what was purchased during the unauthorized transaction.
Police said that on Nov. 18, Marlow "gained entry" to a residence on Red Maple Drive South in Wantagh, allegedly breaking the glass of a rear window to enter the home.
Police said he then "removed assorted jewelry" from the home -- and said he later pawned that jewelry in West Babylon and Massapequa Park.
Marlow is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
GARDEN CITY
Cops: Man resisted arrest
A Freeport man suspected of burglarizing three homes and stealing a vehicle from one of them also resisted arrest when police finally tracked him down, authorities said yesterday.
Fritz Byer, 26, of 98 Harris Ave., faces three counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, second-degree assault and resisting arrest.
He was ordered remanded Sunday at his arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead and is due back in court Wednesday.
Police said Byer is suspected of burglarizing a home on Washington Avenue in Garden City on Nov. 3, taking a laptop and a woman's purse.
Another Garden City home on Osborne Road was burglarized between Nov. 14 and 18, with the suspect taking coins and a 2013 Honda CR-V.
Police said Byer was seen entering the stolen vehicle on Saturday on Peters Avenue in Hempstead, after a residence on Poplar Street in Garden City was burglarized a day earlier.
When police approached Byer, a struggle ensued and one officer sustained a laceration to his right hand, according to a news release. The injured officer was treated at a hospital and released, police said.
