Long Island Marathon 2013: Everything you need to know

It's the much-anticipated Long Island Marathon weekend. Here's what you need to know before you go, while you're there and even if you're trying to avoid it:

RACES

Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K: 8 a.m. start at Charles Lindbergh Blvd.

REGISTRATION

Late registration will be accepted in person at the Sports and Fitness Expo on Saturday and Sunday.

5K: $36

Half Marathon: $67
Marathon: $77

PARKING

The closest spot to park near the finish line is inside Eisenhower Park. Participants are advised to arrive before 7 a.m. to avoid delays due to road closures. Use the Hempstead Turnpike entrance and look for Public Safety Officers, who will direct you to available spots.

LIRR

The Westbury station is the closest Long Island Rail Road stop to the races.

SECURITY

Only registered runners with their bibs are permitted in the starting area on Charles Lindberg Boulevard.

Spectators may not bring bags to the finish line area in Eisenhower Park, and runners must use the clear bags provided at check-in.

ROAD CLOSURES

Charles Lindbergh Boulevard, from 5:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Merrick Avenue (north of Hempstead Turnpike), from 7:30 to 9:45 a.m.

Old Country Road (Post Avenue to School Street), from 7:45 to 10 a.m.

School Street (Old Country Road to Railroad Avenue), from 7:45 to 10 a.m.

Salisbury Park Drive (closed to southbound traffic only), from 7:45 to 10:30 a.m.

Railroad Avenue, from 7:45 to 10 a.m.

Post Avenue (Railroad Avenue to Jericho Turnpike), from 8 to 10:30 a.m.

Jericho Turnpike (Post Avenue to Brush Hollow Road), from 8 to 11 a.m.; westbound JerichoTurnpike will remain open.

Brush Hollow Road, from 8:15 to 11:30 a.m.; Brush Hollow Road south of Wantagh State Parkway will remain open.

Carman Avenue (Old Country Road to Nottingham Road), from 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Wantagh State Parkway, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Northern State Parkway exits to Post Avenue and Wantagh Parkway, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All exits and entrances to and from Wantagh Parkway, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Meadowbrook Parkway exits and entrances to and from Charles Lindbergh Boulevard (Nassau Community College) and Eisenhower Park exits (M4), from 5:30 to 10 a.m.

Eisenhower Park Boulevard Merrick Avenue Entrance from 7:30 to 10 a.m., subject to earlier closure

WEATHER

Sunday

The forecast for the East Meadow area is sunny with a high of 64 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

AT THE START LINE

Prior to the start of the race, a tribute will be made to honor the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. There will be 26 seconds of silence and a "Long Islanders Running for Boston" well-wishing wall will be unveiled. The National Anthem will be sung by Gillian Doupe of Lynbrook.

AT THE FINISH LINE

For the first time ever, a jumbo video display at the finish line will show close-ups of the top three marathon runners, photos from along the course and encouraging tweets from spectators. There will be a Finish Line Festival in Eisenhower Park after the race for runners and their friends and family. There will be refreshments from Snapple, Pop Chips, Michelob and more.

GETTING TO THE ISLANDERS GAME

The New York Islanders will play the Pittsburgh Penguins at 12 p.m. Sunday in the conference quarterfinal series at the Nassau Coliseum adjacent to the marathon activity. All roadways surrounding the Coliseum will be open from 10 a.m. on, and doors open at 10:30 a.m. Fans planning to arrive early should avoid Charles Lindbergh Boulevard, which will be closed until 9:30 a.m.
