WANTAGH SCHOOL EVACUATIONS LIFTED

Evacuations have been lifted at Wantagh High School and the adjacent Wantagh Middle School following a search by Nassau County police, according to a message posted on the Wantagh Union Free School District website.

The district called police at 9:26 a.m. Thursday morning after a message containing a bomb threat was found in the high school's boys bathroom.

Police, along with K-9 officers and officials from the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management, conducted a full sweep of the building.

High school students were taken to Forest Lake Elementary School, while the middle school students were brought to St. Francis Church.

A message on the district website from Superintendent Maureen Goldberg timestamped at 1 p.m. said the students would be returning to their respective schools and that dismissal will be at the usual time. All after-school and evening activities will continue as usual.
