FIRE

Firefighters from the Baldwin Fire Department needed about 45 minutes to extinguish a fire at the China King restaurant on Grand Avenue early Thursday.

Chief Craig Yanantuono said his department received a call for a fire at the restaurant at about 1 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, Nassau County police were there, Yanantuono said. The fire originated in the restaurant and appears to be accidental, he said. There was considerable water, smoke and fire damage to the restaurant, but only minor damage, mostly from smoke, to two adjoining businesses in the strip mall, he said.

Also responding were the Freeport, Hempstead, South Hempstead and Rockville Centre fire departments.
