Long Island runners shine at Manhattan Invitational

Long Island runners shined at the Manhattan Invitational last weekend at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. With multiple varsity races held throughout the event, there were a host of winners and top performers from Nassau, Suffolk and the CHSAA.
Shoreham-Wading River’s Ryan Udvadia took first in the Varsity A race, finishing the 2.5 mile run in 12 minutes, 28 seconds. Udvadia’s teammate Matt Gladysz finished sixth in 13:14. The two helped Shoreham-Wading River take first place overall, scoring 71 points.
Kyle Kelly of West Islip finished ninth in the Varsity A race, running a 13:18.9.
Anthony Coccia of Sachem North snatched the top LI finish in the Varsity B race, finishing eighth in 13:15.8. His teammate, Isaac Garcia-Cassani, finished 12th in 13:26. A third Flaming Arrow, Daniel Block, finished 16th in 13:33.3. Sachem North won the Varsity B race with 111 points.
Islip’s Mike Watts topped all Long Islanders in the Varsity C race, finishing fifth in 13:14.7. Islip finished 11th out of 30 teams in the race, scoring 318 points.
East Meadow’s Mike Grady kept LI’s top 10 streak alive, finishing 10th in the Varsity D race in 13:24.7. Earlier in the season, Grady broke East Meadow’s 4K record, held by his older brother Sean, by running a 12:51 at Bethpage State Park.
St. Anthony’s finished second in the Varsity E race. Patrick Tucker placed second in 12:47.8. Teammate Louis Santelli was right behind him in 12:48.9. Syosset’s Tyler Italiano rounded out the top 10, finishing in 13:08.4.
Commack’s Josh Hadity finished fifth in the Varsity F race, running a 13:19.2. Bayport-Blue Point’s Shawn Bofinger finished 14th in 13:41.4.
Ward Melville’s Charlie Theiss topped all LIers in the Varsity G race. He finished in 13:45.5, good for 26th.
Chaminade’s Thomas Slattery finished 14th in the Eastern States Championship Race, finishing in 12:42.6.
Girls results were also impressive. Syosset eighth grader Reilly Siebert placed second in the Varsity F race, running a 15:31.2. Teammate Lauren Gruber finished eighth in 15:54.1. The Braves finished second in the team competition, scoring 110 points.
Li runners dominated the top 10 of the F race, led by Shoreham-Wading River. Sophomore Kaitlyn Ohrtman finished third in 15:32.4 and eighth grader Katherine Lee finished sixth in 15:46.4. Connetquot’s Erin Melly finished fourth in 15:37.9.
Kellenberg’s Jazmine Fray finished just outside the top ten in the Varsity A race, clocking a 15:44.8 -- good for 11th.
Eastport-South Manor freshman Taylor McClay finished the Varsity B race in fifth, running a 15:30.8. Our Lady of Mercy’s Tara Sweeney was sixth in 15:35.1. Sacred Heart’s Paige Duca ran 15:48.8, good for 14th.
North Babylon’s Jessica Scheriff finished the Varsity C race in seventh in 15:44. Bay Shore’s Caelyn Reilly ran the Varsity D race in 16:24.6, good for 27th.
St. Anthony’s Stephanie Leo was seventh in the Varsity F race in 15:30.4. Bayport-Blue Point’s Brianna Delzell was 16th in 15:52.1.
Garden City’s Stephanie Gerland finished the Eastern States Championship in 15:08, good for 17th.
