Long Island Sound under special marine warning
A Special Marine Warning is in effect until 5:30 p.m. for Long Island Sound waters off eastern Nassau County through Port Jefferson until 5:30 p.m.
The National Weather Service had earlier issued a marine warning for Long Island Sound to Port Jefferson until 4:45 p.m.
Winds speeds on the Sound of more than 34 knots are possible with the potential for "steep waves," the weather service said in an update.
"Seek safe harbor, "the weather service says on its website. "Take protective actions."
