SURPRISE SNOW

A surprise snowstorm snarled traffic during the morning rush hour. That elicited reactions from Long Islanders on social media. Parts of Long Island were covered in about 4 inches of snow by the time the white stuff stopped falling around 11 a.m.

WEATHER

Expect clear skies Monday night with a low of 34 degrees, according to the latest forecast.

TRAFFIC AND TRANSIT

NEWS AND NOTES

Speaking of opening day, follow all the pregame, in-game and postgame action as Newsday's baseball writers, web producers and photographers capture the excitement at Citi Field, where the Mets are taking on the Washington Nationals. The winning ticket in Tuesday's $20 million Mega Millions jackpot was sold in Coram. The winner hasn't stepped forward as of this afternoon.

The Long Island Press is going digital only. The former alternative weekly, which went monthly last year, posted a brief video about it on their homepage.

WATER MAIN BREAKS

The Suffolk County Water Authority was reporting the following water main breaks late Monday afternoon.

AMITYVILLE, Bayside Place. About 32 residences impacted

ISLIP TERRACE, Fairview Avenue. About 65 residents impacted.

Customers in the affected areas could experience low water pressure, discolored water or no water service as crews make repairs, according to SCWA.
