Long Island updates for Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014

Tonight, temperatures could reach as low as 12 degrees, with a wind chill of minus 2 degrees. Record-breaking cold may be coming through with potentially "significant snowfall" Sunday night into Monday night, forecasters predict.

WATER MAIN BREAK

In Miller Place, water is shut down for water main repair on Miller Court. It will affect 37 residences, according to the SCWA's website.

In Patchogue, water is shut down for water main repair on River Avenue, south of West Main Street. It will affect 20 residences.

TRAFFIC

SHIRLEY. Police activity on William Floyd Parkway between Palmetto Drive and Montauk Highway.

NASSAU. Slow-moving maintenance vehicle closes two lanes of the LIE eastbound between Exit 35 and Exit 36.

AGENDA

LONG BEACH. The Long Beach Zoning Board of Appeals is meeting tonight at 7 at City Hall, 1 W. Chester Street, to vote on the proposed Superblock development. The city had been locked in litigation about the property — a vacant eyesore near the boardwalk for decades — since 2011, but it is settled. The developer has proposed two 160-foot towers with 522 units, which would be the tallest buildings in Long Beach. Check Patrick Whittle's Twitter updates @pxwhittle.
