Who bought the domain name Longisland.com?
We won't know for awhile, but whoever did paid $370,000 at an online auction. It was owned by Invision.com Inc., the Commack-based technology company that was acquired in 2007 by MindShift Technologies of Waltham, Mass.
The site, a potpourri of ads, advice, news and features about Long Island, has been around since the mid-1990s. According to marketing execs on the Island, the site may get as many as 300,000 hits a month.
Andrew Hazen, chief executive of Prime Visibility, an Internet marketing firm in Melville, put in a $250,000 bid. "The site could generate over $1 million a year in revenue," Hazen said. The site's revenue could not be learned. Hazen said the buyer will likely disclose his or her name, or company, soon.
