After more than two decades helping Bellport residents look their best, Donna Waters closed the doors to her clothing shop for good last month.
“I used to have a really busy, thriving business,” Waters said.
She opened the shop in 1990 in the Old Purchase Realty Building on South Country Road. She moved across the street two years ago to the former home of the Bellport General Store.
“I guess you can say due to the economic decline, I wasn’t doing the business I normally do," Waters said. "I decided to close it before it got worse.”
Dozens of Waters’ clients, friends and local merchants chipped in to throw her a thank-you party Feb.12 at the Coffee Shop on South Country Road where they reminisced about the years she was in business.
“Donna Waters is sort of a diva legend in Bellport. She has a very individualistic style,” said Pamela Lerner, owner of Pamela Lerner Antiques. “We were all very sad that she was going.”
