The mass migration to Delaware continues. This week, Longwood’s Kiersten West verbally committed to play basketball at the University of Delaware, making her the third Long Island girl to do so in recent weeks.
West, a junior, helped lead Longwood to a 9-4 record in Suffolk’s League I and a berth in the Class AA playoffs. The 5-9 do-it-all forward averaged 14 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks last season – in addition to strong defense and improved perimeter shooting.
Juniors Chastity Taylor of St. Anthony’s and North Babylon’s Makeda Nicholas also committed to Delaware earlier this month. The three are AAU teammates.
“I am truly blessed to coach such an incredible student-athlete,” Longwood coach James Castiglione said of West, who received several Division I offers before making her decision. “Kiery has represented our community and her family extremely well and we are so very proud of her.”
