Hempstead Town officials will hold a lottery for eight new bike lockers at the Long Island Rail Road train station in Bellmore.

Residents interested in receiving a no-cost one-year bike locker lease must submit an entry form to the town clerk’s office by Monday, March 19 at 4 p.m.

Each of the bike lockers, provided by the state Department of Transportation, is 4 feet tall, 6 feet long and 3¼ feet wide. They are located on the north side of the tracks at the Bellmore train station, officials said.

The town requires a $40 key deposit, which is refunded at the end of the one-year lease. No subleasing is permitted, officials said.

The eight winners will be randomly selected by the town clerk’s office during a lottery drawing on Monday, April 2. The lockers will be available for use by the winners starting that same day.

“These eight bike lockers will give our residents added incentive to use two wheels instead of four, providing a pollution-free method of getting to work and a great way to get your heart pumping,” Supervisor Kate Murray said in a statement.

Residents can obtain lottery applications by contacting the town clerk’s office at 516-812-3026.
