Lottery for free bike lockers at Bellmore train station

Hempstead Town officials will hold a lottery for eight new bicycle lockers at the Long Island Rail Road train station in Bellmore.

Residents interested in receiving a no-cost one-year bike locker lease must submit an entry form to the Town Clerk’s Office by 4 p.m. Monday.

Each of the bike lockers, provided by the New York State Department of Transportation, is 4 feet tall, 6 feet long and 3¼  feet wide. They are located on the north side of the tracks at the Bellmore train station, officials said.

Each locker can hold a standard bicycle, protecting it from damage, theft and bad weather. The town requires a $40 key deposit, which is refunded at the end of the one-year lease. No subleasing is permitted, officials said.

The eight winners will be randomly selected during a drawing on Monday, March 25. The lockers will be available for use by the winners starting on Monday, April 1.

Residents can obtain lottery applications by contacting the Town Clerk’s Office at 516-812-3026. The Town Clerk's Office is located on the first floor of Town Hall at 1 Washington St. in Hempstead.
