While the $326 million Mega Millions jackpot winner bought the ticket at a Middletown gas station upstate, there also was a Mega winner on Long Island.
A $4 million Mega Millions ticket in the Tuesday drawing was sold at a King Kullen on Route 25 in Selden, the New York Lottery said Thursday.
The winner has yet to claim the prize. The winning numbers were 9, 15, 24, 39, 41 and the Mega ball of 1.
In this case, the lottery said, the player upped his or her prize from $1 million to $4 million by buying a regular quick pick ticket and then selecting the megaplier option for one dollar more.
That feature "really paid off," said Gardner Gurney, acting director of the state Division of the Lottery. "For only an additional dollar, this person quadrupled his or her money.
Gurney's advice is for the winner to "sign the back of the ticket and keep it in a safe place until they are ready to claim their prize at the lottery."
Back in 2011, a $208 million Mega Millions winning ticket was sold to a California man at another King Kullen, at 1235 Middle Country Rd., Middle Island.
