The Powerball jackpot last night was estimated at $317 million, with a one-time cash payout of $176.3 million before taxes, lottery officials said.

The winning numbers were 1, 17, 25, 37, 44 and Powerball 20. The odds of matching all six numbers -- including the Powerball number -- are about 1 in 175 million, according to the game's website.

New York State Lottery spokeswoman Christy Calicchia said Saturday's sales were "very brisk."

"Whenever you get to over $300 million people, get very excited about the drawing, and a lot of people who maybe only play when the jackpot gets high, they jump on the bandwagon," she said.

The record Powerball jackpot was $590.5 million, won in May by an octogenarian in Florida. The second-largest jackpot of $587 million was split by two players -- one from Arizona and one from Missouri -- last November.

Powerball tickets are sold in 43 states, including New York; Washington, D.C.; and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
