Eddie Jordan's first season at Rutgers is over, and fifth-ranked Louisville gave his team a last reminder of how much work they face building the Big Ten-bound program.

Rutgers had its worst scoring performance since 1982 in being routed, 92-31, by Louisville yesterday in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament in Memphis, Tenn.

"They've been to the top of the mountain, and we're starting from the bottom of the mountain," Jordan said of the defending national champs. "We want to get to where they are. It's going to be a process for us, and it has been a process for us. I thought our guys had a lot of character, and we just need to know how hard we have to work to get to where we want to go."

Rutgers (12-21) scored only 29 points in a 30-29 loss on Jan. 25, 1982, at St. Bonaventure.

Louisville's bench wound up outscoring Rutgers as a whole 32-31 after the Cardinals finished the first half with a 52-9 run. Louisville (27-5) faces Houston, a 68-64 winner over SMU, in the semifinals.

They face fourth-seeded Saint Joseph's in a quarterfinal today.
