Louisville holds off Cal-Irvine

Quentin Snider hit two free throws with 8.9 seconds left as fourth-seeded Louisville beat 13th-seeded Cal-Irvine, 57-55, yesterday in Seattle in the second round of the East Regional.

With the score tied, Snider snagged a rebound in the corner off a long miss by Luke Nelson and drew a foul when Will Davis II crashed into him.

The Anteaters (21-13) never got a final shot as Terry Rozier stole the ball. Wayne Blackshear had 19 for Louisville (25-8).

Northern Iowa 71, Wyoming 54: In an East Regional game in Seattle, Paul Jesperson had 16 points and Northern Iowa (31-3) built a 21-point lead with an 11-1 run to start the second half. Larry Nance Jr. led Wyoming (25-10) with 16 points.

Oklahoma 69, Albany 60: In an East Regional game in Columbus, Ohio, TaShawn Thomas scored 18 points to lead third-seeded Oklahoma (23-10). Peter Hooley had 15 points, Evan Singletary 13, Sam Rowley 12 and Ray Sanders 11 for No. 14-seeded Albany (24-9).

Dayton 66, Providence 53: Dyshawn Pierre had 20 for 11th-seeded Dayton (27-8) in an East Regional game in Columbus, Ohio. LaDontae Henton had 18 for the sixth-seeded Friars (22-12).

Wisconsin 86, Coastal Carolina 72: Frank Kaminsky had 27 points and 12 rebounds for No. 1 seed Wisconsin (32-3) in the West Regional in Omaha, Nebraska. Warren Gillis scored 20 for Coastal Carolina (24-10).

Oregon 79, Oklahoma St. 73: Joseph Young scored 27 points and Dillon Brooks had 17 for the eighth-seeded Ducks (26-9) in the West Regional in Omaha, Nebraska. Le'Bryan Nash had 18 points for ninth-seeded Oklahoma State (18-14).

Iowa 83, Davidson 52: Aaron White (26 points) scored 13 straight points in an 18-3 run in the second half for the seventh-seeded Hawkeyes (22-11) in a South Regional game in Seattle. Tenth-seeded Davidson is 24-8.

Gonzaga 86, North Dakota State 76: Kyle Wiltjer had 23 points for the second-seeded Bulldogs (33-2) in a South Regional game in Seattle. Dexter Werner had 22 points for 15th-seeded State (23-10).-- AP
