The Lynbrook Fire Department will host an End of Summer Block Party and Salute to Our Heroes on Saturday, Sept. 10.

The event will be held from 5 to 11 p.m. at Rescue, Hook and Ladder Company No. 1 on 189 Earle Ave., between Sunrise Highway and Merrick Road. The party will benefit Nassau County Firefighters-Operation Wounded Warrior.

The suggested donation is $20 per person and includes food, live music and two drinks. Servicemen and women in uniform will be admitted free.

The fire department will also be accepting donations of socks, T-shirts, gym shorts, sweat pants, phone calling cards, bicycle gloves for wheelchair use, toiletries, or other useful items for veterans under hospital care.

All proceeds from the event will be used for the purchase of holiday gifts for wounded warriors being treated in the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. and at Camp Lejeune and Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Nassau firefighters will be traveling in convoys, dubbed the Long Red Line, in December to distribute the gifts.
