Rubio: Maduro not the 'legitimate' president of Venezuela
WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the U.S.-led removal of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was justified because the authoritarian leader was not recognized internationally as the country’s duly elected leader.
“He is not the legitimate president of Venezuela,” Rubio said at a Mar-A-Lago press conference. “That's not just us saying it — the first Trump administration, the Biden administration, the second Trump administration. None of those three recognize him. He's not recognized by the European Union and multiple countries around the world.”
