The Huntington Town Board has approved the purchase of a 1-acre parcel of land to be used as parkland and a parking area for the Makamah Nature Preserve in Fort Salonga.

At the board’s meeting last week, members voted to spend $350,000 for the parcel, owned by the Maude D. Roberg Living Trust.

The land is on the east side of Makamah Road, and will be used for a “small, safe parking area” for visitors to access the main trail entrance to the preserve.

The parcel will be renamed the Roberg/Brickmaker Preserve.
