Malibu Shore Club to reopen for the summer on Saturday

The 65-year-old Malibu Shore Club in Lido Beach, which was closed and heavily damaged by superstorm Sandy, will open for the summer on Saturday.
Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray attended a reopening ceremony Friday at the club, which is owned by the town.
Butch Yamali, who operates the club for the town, said $1 million was spent on repairs, which are finished except for minor details.
Sandy flooded the club with a foot and a half of water and deposited 4 feet of sand in the facility.
“We just got a delivery of palm trees from Florida, and we’ve turned everything back on,” Yamali said, adding that the coming days will serve as “move-in week” before the reopening.
The resort includes more than 600 beach cabanas, steps from the Atlantic Ocean. Over the years, Frank Sinatra, U2, Billy Joel and the Ramones have performed there.
“There was a lot of facility damage, and it has all been renovated,” she said.
