Malverne Historical Society turns 25

The Malverne Historical Society celebrated its 25th anniversary Thursday.

The organization formed on Aug. 11, 1986, to help preserve historical memorabilia from Malverne, as well as to promote the community.

“We look forward to many more years of collecting the past and presenting it to the future generations of Malvernites,” Robert J. Powers, president of the Malverne Historical Society, said in a statement.

For the last 15 years, the Joseph L. Landers Memorial Restoration House, 369 Church Ave., has served as a museum and meeting house for the community. The society frequently holds historical teas and brunches, “Antique Road Show”-style events, retrospective displays of Malverne schools, quilt shows, movie night, and trash-and-treasure sales.

The historical society board also has helped research requests from family members, residents searching for old schoolmates, and those looking for historical facts about Malverne’s past, Powers said.

“There is nothing more fulfilling than helping someone find out some historical information for their family or friends,” Powers said.
