Malverne Mel will make his prognostication for the 2014 weather forecast at the 19th Groundhog Day Celebration on Sunday, Feb. 2. Will it be an early spring or six more weeks of winter?
The prediction will be made at 7 a.m. in the gazebo on Church Street in Malverne. Village trustees, along with state and local government officials, will don their tophats while Malverne Mayor Patricia Norris-McDonald will encourage the groundhog to leave his cozy hutch and offer his weather forecast. After the prediction, there will be photo opportunities with Malverne Mel.
The event then will shift to Crossroads Farm at Grossmann’s, a Malverne farm owned by the Nassau Land Trust. The event will feature music of the Banjo Rascals, a petting zoo, a wood-carving demonstration, a scavenger hunt and a poster contest, as well as tours of the farm.
The activities are sponsored by the Village of Malverne, the Malverne Civic Association and Crossroads Farm at Grossmann’s.
