Malverne Village Hall’s Monday hours to change

Malverne Village offices at Village Hall will be opened Mondays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting in January on a trial basis for six months.

The change is to provide residents access to village departments outside the current Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. business hours. The board voted unanimously to approve the new hours during a work session last month, officials said.

“We’re hoping this will work out,” Mayor Patricia Norris-McDonald said during the board’s Wednesday night meeting. “It allows residents to come in without taking a day off.”

The change of hours was based on discussions about the extended hours in Sea Cliff Village, which has been around for decades, trustee Michael T. Bailey said. Sea Cliff Village Hall is open on Mondays from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesdays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sea Cliff, in the Town of Oyster Bay, has a population of about 5,000 people.

“We want to make sure people have access to us,” Bailey said. “People have said it is hard to get here during business hours.”
