A 29-year-old man was in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital after jumping from the Brooklyn Bridge on Wednesday afternoon, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

The man, whom police would not identify, suffered arm and leg contusions, the spokeswoman said, and was not considered likely to die. The incident occurred about 4:40 p.m., police said.

The bridge's clear height over river channel is 133 feet above mean high water, according to the Federal Highway Administration. The bridge, completed in 1883, connects Brooklyn and Manhattan.
