Manez throws no-hitter for Plainedge

Senior Tyler Manez tossed a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts and three walks as No. 16 Plainedge blanked No. 3 South Side, 8-0, Wednesday in Game 1 of a Nassau Class A best-of-three semifinal. Manez retired the first 11 batters before surrendering a walk in the bottom of the fourth.

Ralph Caccavale went 4-for-5 with two runs for Plainedge (15-9), which will host South Side in Game 2 Thursday at 4:30.

BOYS LACROSSE

Friends Academy 11, Locust Valley 8: Will Sands and Harrison DellaFera each scored twice in the fourth quarter as No. 3 Friends Academy (12-5) scored five unanswered goals to upend No. 2 Locust Valley in a Nassau Class C semifinal at Hofstra. Sands finished with five goals for Friends, which will play No. 1 Cold Spring Harbor for the Class C title 3:30 Tuesday at Hofstra.

Garden City 17, Long Beach 5: Catherine McTiernan scored six goals and Alexandra Bruno added two goals and four assists to lift No. 1 Garden City (13-5) in a Nassau Class B semifinal.

Ward Melville 13, East Islip 5: Ally Tilley had four goals and Emily Rogers-Healion and Kelsey Nagle each had two goals and three assists to lead No. 1 Ward Melville (17-1) in a Suffolk Class A semifinal. Ward Melville plays No. 2 Bay Shore for the county championship at 8 p.m. next Thursday at Dowling.

BOYS TENNIS

Ward Melville 4, Commack 3: Cole Laffitty defeated Andy Zhou, 6-4, 6-7 (7-5), 6-3, in the deciding first- singles match to lead No. 2 Ward Melville (18-0) past No. 3 Commack in a Suffolk semifinal. Ward Melville will face the winner of No. 1 Half Hollow Hills East vs. No. 4 Whitman in the final Thursday at 2 p.m. at Smithtown East.
