Representatives of several hunger-relief organizations joined Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano Tuesday to challenge business, government and nonprofit groups to help address the hunger crisis on Long Island.

“Hunger impacts more than 300,000 people on Long Island,” Mangano said at a news conference outside the County Executive Building in Mineola. “If all just gave a little, there would be no shortage of food, clothing or shelter,” he said.

With two trucks on the walkway to the building — a KAPAC vehicle delivering 100 turkeys and an Island Harvest truck picking them up with county-collected food stuff — Mangano praised both the Korean American Public Affairs Committee and Long Island’s largest hunger-fighting agency, Island Harvest.

“The partnership between these organizations is an important example of how nonprofits, local government and local business can come together to serve their community and help solve critical issues, like hunger,” he said.

Other agencies on hand included Long Island Cares, Lighthouse Mission and Interfaith Nutrition Network.

Earlier in the day, Mangano took part in the giveaway of 10,000 holiday meals by Lakeview’s Mid Island Collision owner Bob Jesberger and Long Island Care chief Paule Pachter.
