Nassau fire districts can save thousands of dollars through a joint purchase of EMS medical supplies with Suffolk County next month, Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano said.

The bulk purchase bid will be issued by the Long Island Purchasing Council, a procurement consortium between Nassau and Suffolk, the towns of Oyster Bay and Brookhaven and dozens of local villages.

The cooperative bid, expected to include fire districts in both counties, will include more than 50 commonly used items by EMS and fire rescue teams such as accountability systems, fit testing equipment, gloves, antiseptic and alcohol wipes.

The Nassau County Police Department’s Emergency Ambulance Bureau has already agreed to purchase its equipment through the bid. “If purchased in bulk through the Long Island Purchasing Council, there will be a savings of thousands of dollars,” Mangano said.

Nassau County Fire Districts can join the Long Island Purchasing Council at no cost or obligation.
