Nassau and Suffolk county police are urging motorists to use caution at intersections because an unspecified number of traffic lights still are not working.

On state routes on Long Island, 26 traffic signals -- 13 in each county -- had no power as of noon Friday, said Eileen Peters, spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation. The state has 1,100 signals on the Island.

"We have technicians standing by so that as soon as the power comes on, they are out to check that they are cycling correctly," Peters said.

Nassau County spokeswoman Mary Studdert said 15 traffic signals were out at intersections on county roads.

Suffolk County did not provide an updated number of signal outages Friday.
