BACKGROUND: Laykind, 48, of Plainview, is also running on the Democratic Party line in the general election. Since 1997 he has been an attorney in private practice with offices in Nassau and Queens counties, concentrating on criminal and civil litigation. From 1989 to 1997 he was senior staff trial attorney at the New York City Legal Aid Society. He graduated from Binghamton University in 1986 and from Hofstra University's Maurice A. Deane School of Law in 1989. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1990. He is a member of the New York State, Nassau County and Queens County Bar associations.
